One of the most important aspects of any communication is spelling and grammar.  Both of these elements contribute to your success! Did you proofread and search for errors that may appear in your cover letter?

Your mission is to make a positive first impression on the recruiter. This is the first and possibly the last opportunity you will have. It is easy for your letter and resume to be rejected simply because of a spelling error.  Did you use spell check?  Although you used it, you still may have a "miss steak" in your letter. Or should that be a "mistake"?  These words did pass a Spell Check.  Which "mistake" is correct? If the recruiters see a "miss steak," your cover letter or resume may be removed from consideration. Recruiters are looking for potential employees who have an eye for and pay attention to detail. If a letter contains incorrect information, your chances of receiving a call for an interview are almost non-existent.

There are several ways to ensure that your letter is perfect. Print a hard copy and read the cover letter. Ask several people to read the letter.  Inquire whether they would consider hiring you after reading the letter. It is difficult to proofread a document that you have written.  Your brain knows what you want to say, however, your eyes may see words that are not there or incorrect words on the paper.
Whether you are sending your cover letter and resume by snail mail or submitting it online, you must make sure that your submission is correct. Important items, such as commas, apostrophes, numbers, capitalization, misused words, and subject and verb agreement cannot be overlooked.

Your cover letter is your canvas; your goal is to paint a beautiful picture. If you feel it is not the masterpiece that it should be. You control the paint-go back and re-paint it.
Next issue will focus on your resume. Surf the web and locate three resumes in your area of interest. Look for words that are relevant to the industry for which you are applying. Your goal is to begin to think about your achievements and accomplishments. Your next employer is interested in knowing about the experience and enthusiasm that you will be to his or her organization.
