Family members of missing UI Professor Arthur Miller had hope that 66-year-old is alive after two days of searching in upper Hickory Hill Park revealed no body.



On Thursday at 6 p.m. local authorities suspended their search. The park is now safe and open to the public, police said.

According to the Supreme Court, Americans have the right to own firearms for hunting as well as for self-defense.

On June 26, the court case, District of Columbia vs. Heller, eliminated D.C.'s 32-year ban of handguns.

The ban, which took effect in 1976 in a city struggling with violence, outlawed private ownership of firearms.

IMU remains piece of work

The IMU Hawkeye is bare studs and empty ceiling frames. The decorated Herky that greeted students with a soaring fist rests in a corner, covered in plastic.



Officials led the first public tour of the building Wednesday, and David Grady, the UI associate vice president for University Life Centers, said he was "cautiously optimistic" about opening the first three floors of the IMU by mid-semester, but he was unable to determine a date.

After more than six hours of searching Hickory Hill Park Wednesday afternoon, officers were unable to find missing UI Professor Arthur Miller.



Today, officers will resume their search at 7 a.m., although this search is more focused on finding a dead body, said Iowa City police Sgt. Troy Kelsay. Cadaver dogs were brought in this morning.
